If you’re anything like me, you’ve been desperately waiting for Warner Brothers to release IT for home viewing. I have been physically ill for the last month, needing to watch the lovable Losers’ Club take on Pennywise once again. Today’s news doesn’t cure our sickness, but it does offer a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel.
IT, this year’s smash horror hit (and the breath in my lungs since September), is following the recent pattern for huge film releases and will be available in a Digital HD format a few weeks before physical discs. The digital release will be available on December 19th, and fans waiting for a physical copy will have to wait until January 9th to grab their copy. That day will bring us three different options for the film; a 4k Ultra HD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack, a Blu-Ray/Dvd combo Pack and a two-disc DVD edition.
It will be hard to wait until January, but the special features announced may make it worth it. Owners of the physical discs will be able to see four amazing features:
- Pennywise Lives! – Discover how Bill Skarsgård prepared to portray the primordial creature known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
- The Losers’ Club – Get up close and personal with the teenage stars of “IT” as they bond together during the production.
- Author of Fear – Stephen King reveals the roots of his best-selling novel, the nature of childhood fear and how he created his most famous monster, Pennywise.
- Deleted Scenes – Eleven deleted or extended scenes from the film.
Lovers of the novel by Stephen King have been hoping to see some deleted scenes that may include details of the story that director Andy Muschietti simply wasn’t able to fit into the film. In an interview with Variety, Bill Skarsgard mentioned a scene that was cut from the movie wherein we witness Pennywise, um, eat a baby. The actor stated that the scene was “very disturbing” and that it depicted a mother offering her infant to a not-quite-a-clown-yet monster in exchange for her own safety. Let’s hope that this disturbing scene is included!
