Thirty years after starring in the original Predator (1987), Shane Black has returned as director for the series’ newest installment, The Predator. This time around, the alien villain has evolved and is now bigger and badder than ever.
The latest trailer for The Predator opens with a spacecraft landing in Mexico and what follows is an action packed teaser that offers very little plot. The military seems to be trying to figure out the best way to fight the predator and understand its motivations. We are also teased with an epic predator vs. predator fight sequence.
The Official Synopsis:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The Predator boasts a decorated cast, including: Jacob Tremblay (Room, Before I Wake), Olivia Munn (The Newsroom, Deliver us from Evil), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight, Westworld), Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale, Headland), Jake Busey (The Frighteners, Starship Troopers), Keegan Michael Key (Key & Peele, Keanu) and Edward James Olmos (Blade Runner, Coco).
Black also co-wrote the film with Fred Dekker, who is responsible for penning cult films of the 80’s like Night of the Creeps (1986) and The Monster Squad (1987).For those expecting a tame sci-fi/horror film, Black took to Twitter to assure fans that the film will be as bloody as ever. “And, just to be clear..,” he tweets, “PG-13 is for pussies. Spines bleed….a lot.”
The Predator is a production of Twentieth Century Fox and hits theaters on September 14th.
