Much to the delight of comic book fans, director Todd Phillips has been very forthcoming with info on his new Joker movie. We’ve learned a ton about the DC Comics villain-centric movie just by following his Instagram, including several behind the scenes looks and a thrilling costume reveal. However, nothing was quite as exciting as yesterday’s poster reveal, along with the announcement of a teaser trailer out today.
And sure enough, Phillips has been *terrible heath Ledger impression* “a man of his word.” The very first teaser for Joker is out right now, and you can check it in all its grinning glory out below:
Joker is the tragic story of Arthur Fleck, a man driven into a life of madness and murder as the Clown Prince of Crime. We’ve heard for a while now that the film will be a dark, gritty experience inspired by films like Martin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver, and that’s abundantly clear in the trailer above. Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular villain, and will also feature titanic talent such as Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, and the Taxi Driver himself, Robert De Niro. We don’t get a lot of plot from this trailer, but it’s safe to say that this is not a film you’ll want to miss. Joker hits theaters everywhere this October 4th.
What do you think of the new Joker trailer? Are you excited that the film is straying from a perfectly comic accurate depiction of the villain, or did you want the Clown Prince of Crime to stay closer to his DC Comics roots?
