Samara Weaving. The actress has been solidifying herself as a force in the cinematic world of horror. She has kicked all kinds of ass in several genre films in the past couple of years, and she’s showing no sign of slowing down. Variety has reported that she will be the lead in Fox Searchlight’s thriller, Ready or Not.
Ready or Not will tell a tale
in which a young woman is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.
Fox Searchlight grabbed the film’s rights last fall. Directing the film will be Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin who make up two out of three people behind Radio Silence (Chad Villella will produce). Radio Silence is the talent behind the films Devil’s Due, Southbound, and the V/H/S segment, 10/31/98. They will be working from a script written by Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy.
Fox Searchlight has had tremendous success within the genre. They’re the distribution company behind Guillermo Del Toro’s award winning The Shape of Water as well as Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Other horror films from them include 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, and The Hills Have Eyes remake. They seem to know a thing or 8 about good horror.
Placing Samara Weaving into their newest genre flick seems like a pretty good decision. She made everyone wish their babysitter was as cool as – but not as psychotic as – her last October as Bee in Netflix’s The Babysitter. She kicked ass as a corporate employee in Joe Lynch’s Mayhem, and unsuccessfully avoided deadites in a few episodes of Ash Vs Evil Dead. She was also in Fox Searchlight’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. She is sure to kick ass, once again, as a part of the demented game in Ready or Not.
