Shark Flick MEG Gains a New Name Ahead of 2018 Release

The highly anticipated upcoming shark creature-feature just got an update! Warner Bros has given Meg a bit of an update.. with the addition of a ‘The‘.  Yep. The Meg. It’s all very exciting.

And, if the killer new title doesn’t get you riled up for the upcoming shark-infested summer, did we tell you that Jason Statham (Crank, Furious 7, The Expendables) is starring in it? Yeah. We expect some shark riding, harpoon throwing, rock n’ roll, man vs. shark battles in our near movie-going futures.

The Meg comes from director Jon Turteltaub (National TreasureLast Vegas), which is based on Steve Alten’s popular novel “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror“. The Meg is produced by di Bonaventura Pictures, Apelles Entertainment, Maeday Productions, Inc., and Flagship Entertainment, in association with Beijing Digital Impression (BDI) Film.

Synopsis:

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

Li Bingbin (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Forbidden Kingdom) also stars alongside Statham. Additional cast includes Winston Chao (Skiptrace, Kabali), Masi Oka, Cliff Curtis (The Dark Horse, Risen), Rainn Wilson (The Office, House of 1000 Corpses), Ruby Rose (xXx: Return of Xander Cage, John Wick Chapter 2), Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Robert Taylor, and Sophia Shuya Cai.

The Meg will make a splash in theaters everywhere on August 18th, 2018.
