Our first look at the HBO limited series Sharp Objects has sliced its way online, and we have it here for you now. In the creepy trailer above, Camille Preaker returns home to the small town of Wind Gap, Missouri and it appears that it doesn’t take long for things in her life to take a dark and sinister turn. The eight-episode limited series is produced by Entertainment One and Blumhouse Productions.
Sharp Objects stars Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, April Brinson, and Violet Brinson. The series show runner is Marti Noxon of TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame and is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Big Little Lies). The series is based on the debut novel of the same name by bestselling author Gillian Flynn, who is probably best known for her most recent novel, Gone Girl, which was turned into a feature film starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Gone Girl was a box office hit in 2014, so it is no surprise that studios soon sought out the author’s earlier titles. Flynn’s Dark Places was adapted into an ill-received 2015 film starring Charlize Theron.
Camille, a crime reporter fresh out of a psych hospital for her years of self-harm, returns to her hometown of Wind Gap, Mo., to investigate the murders of two little girls. The assignment lands her back in her childhood home under the critical eye of picture-perfect small-town socialite Adora, which forces Camille to confront personal demons.
Sharp Objects is scheduled to have its premier screening at HTX Television Festival in Austin, TX on June 7. Look for the series to debut on HBO in July.
I have read all of Gillian Flynn’s books, and I’m really looking forward to this, as Sharp Objects is my favorite novel of hers.
