April 30th marks Walpurgisnacht, or Witches’ Night, a holiday that has its origins in pagan times and traditionally celebrated (or at least well-known) in the Germanic countries in Europe. Like Halloween, it is a night where the veil between our world and the spirit world is thinnest. In folklore, witches on this night took to their brooms and flew to mountaintops to perform sabbats and call forth the spirits and the Devil himself. Walpurgisnacht also marks the half-way point to Halloween, giving us another reason to celebrate!
Though Walpurgisnacht isn’t well-known in North America, it has been gaining more and more visibility in recent years as many people embrace all things witchy and witch films, television shows, and books gain popularity (and some even reference Walpurgis Night directly).
There are also many artists, creators, and shops celebrating the witch through their products. In honor of Walpurgisnacht this month, here are some of those witch-inspired items to help empower your inner witch!
