Last Halloween, SNL introduced us to the zany David S. Pumpkins, a bizarre character with an affinity for themed suits. The character is portrayed by Tom Hanks, who has likely found his strangest role to date in Pumpkins. The character originally appeared in Season 42 in the segment “Haunted Elevator” of Episode 4, where he was joined by two dancing skeletons; played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan.
The show caught on, and quickly grew a cult following. So, the team has decided to bring David S. Pumpkins back, for his own animated Halloween Special! Entitled, The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special. George Cheeks, President, Business Operations and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment and Universal Television told Deadline,
It’s scary how quickly the original SNL sketch caught on, and we’re thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going,
Tom Hanks will appear on camera to introduce the half-hour special, as well as voice the animated character. Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and sketch creators Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan and SNL writer Streeter Seidell will also voice characters.
Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows’ Eve, the special will follow David S. Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween.. answering none of their questions along the way.
Day, Seidell and Moynihan will write and produce. Lorne Michaels will executive produce. The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special is a production of Broadway Video in association with SNL Studios.
The special will air on Saturday, October 28th at 11:30 PM ET/PT. Be sure to mark your calendars for The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special!
