The long delayed Amityville: The Awaking is finally seeing the light of day, and you can catch it right now on Google Play for free. In a surprising move, Dimension Films announced back in September that Amityville: The Awakening would be released directly to Google Play on October 12 with a limited theatrical release beginning October 28.
Amityville: The Awakening was filmed back in 2014, and has had its release date shifted several times over the years. The film is the latest in a long line of sequels to the original 1979 The Amityville Horror, based on Jay Anson’s novel of the same name. The film series revolves around the now iconic “haunted house” located in Amityville, New York. Written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2, Maniac) this most recent installment stars Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, Single White Female) and Bella Thorne (The Babysitter and TV’s Scream).
Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
Amityville: The Awakening is available on Google Play now through November 8 and is then scheduled to hit DVD and Bluray on November 14.
