Since we last reported on Luke Jaden’s Boo!, North American distribution rights have been sold and a release date has been firmly established. Purchased by Vertical Entertainment, the film is currently scheduled for a limited theatrical run beginning April 12 2019, released simultaneously on digital platforms and local cable providers.

Boo! follows a struggling suburban family who ignores the warning of what seems like an innocent prank. The results cause them to be haunted by an unknown, supernatural force. This is very similar to chain letters or things we used to see on social media and in emails from gullible grandparents. With a premise like that, it really makes you think twice about things sent to you or tagged in and how to react. The film is written and directed by Jaden as well as co-written by Diane Michelle. It stars Aurora Perrineau, Jaden Piner, Jill Marie Jones, Rob Zabrecky and Charley Palmer Rothwell. Phil Wurtzel and Ele Bradha produced the film along with Midland Entertainment.

Our very own Grant DeArmitt interviewed director Luke Jaden at 2018’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. During their chat, while discussing the genre itself, Jaden shared that “Horror has this negative connotation, but it’s really a space to play and explore ideas. You can paint these big messages and meanings and mysteries.  You can inject a person’s real feelings. That’s what attracted me to it […Boo! is] for people who are stuck,” he told me. “These people [the movie’s characters] are stuck in the past. The past can be beautiful, it can be terrifying. But we need to learn to live in the now, together”.

Boo! is scheduled for release in select theaters, VOD, and Digital Cable Platforms April 12, 2019. Will you be watching from a theater or from the comfort of your home? Let us know on TwitterReddit, and in the Horror Movie Fiend Club on Facebook!
