Synapse Films, a company dedicated to the restoration and release of classic genre films, announced this fall that they would be selling a 40th Anniversary Remastered Edition of Dario Argento’s Suspiria. As we read about all of the special features to be included and amazing technical specs for the film, it became clear that this is the last copy of Suspiria that you will ever have to own. Now, thanks to an article over at Bloody Disgusting, we finally have a release date!

This beautiful remaster will be released on December 19th, 2017! Pre-orders for the 40th Anniversary Edition have been live since late August, and there are currently only 6000 planned to be made available. Not only will you receive the 4K remaster of the film, but you will also get a Blu-Ray disc full of special features and a CD remaster of the incredible soundtrack by Goblin that will feature songs not included in the original.

The film stars Jessica Harper as Suzy Bannion, a “newcomer to a prestigious ballet academy that comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amidst a series of grisly murders.” Released in 1977, Suspiria is widely considered to be the finest Italian horror film of all time. While the merits of that argument can be debated in another column, it’s importance to the genre cannot be denied. Critics all over the world have differing opinions about the film itself, but they all generally agree that it needs to be seen on the big screen. While many of us will never get that opportunity, this Synapse release is as close as a home release is going to get. We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy, and hope that you head on over to Synapse Films and secure your copy before they’re gone!
