The first teaser for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House has been released.
Shared on the series’ own Twitter feed, the first glimpse of the new adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s seminal novel is heading our way. The trailer features an atmospheric pan down a dark hallway as we see into various rooms. We catch sight of movement and human-like shadows. It’s a very eerie and effective first look at the adaptation. The Haunting of Hill House is being handled by Mike Flanagan who’s no stranger to the streaming platform. Previous streamables include the adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game, and home invasion horror, Hush. I personally found his take on King’s story fantastic so for him to be let loose on one of the greatest ghost stories of all time is incredibly exciting news.

What is The Haunting of Hill House?
The Haunting of Hill House is the acclaimed 1959 novel by American author Shirley Jackson. It concerns a group of people who head to Hill House to find proof in its supposed paranormal history. It will most likely be more familiar to you for the two film adaptations it has garnered. Most noteworthy, A remarkably effective 1963 Robert Wise film and in stark contrast, the gaudy special-effects romp of Jan de Bont’s adaptation in 1999. Both films were simply known as The Haunting.
The Haunting of Hill House 2018 is a re-imagining of the story, taking it in some new narrative directions. An official synopsis of the series states
“A modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson‘s iconic novel, “The Haunting of Hill House” explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past — some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House.”
The 10 part series stars Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel and Victoria Pedretti.
So yeah, new adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House. If it wasn’t in Flanagan’s hands I’d have been a little concerned. Flanagan proved with Gerald’s Game that he is highly respectful of revered material. What can I say? I’m jacked for this show! This 10 part series will be available to stream on Netflix on October 12th, just in time for Halloween.
