A brand new teaser trailer for the Guillelmo del-Toro-produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark just dropped online! Directed by Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe), the highly anticipated film adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s books was first teased during the NFL Super Bowl this past February. Without further ado, check out the new trailer below!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark stars Zoe Margaret Colletti (Annie, Wildlife), Michael Garza (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1, Wayward Pines), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight, Kidding), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, The Book of Henry), Lorraine Toussaint (Selma, Orange is the New Black), Austin Abrams ( Paper Towns, Gangster Squad), and Kathleen Pollard (The Shape of Water, The Strain). The film also features notorious boogeyman Javier Botet, featured in horror titles such as It, The Conjuring 2, Slender Man, Mama, and Insidious: The Last Key. The highly anticipated film adaptation is being directed by Andre Ovredal, whose other work includes Trollhunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

The three books in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series were released in 1981, 1984, and 1991. Written by Alvin Schwartz, the books have become a cult classic and staple in the horror community. While the Scary Stories series is known for the tales inside, the nightmarish illustrations may be more burned into its readers’ memories. Unsurprisingly, parents hated the books, likely making them even more appealing to kids. The images and stories combined with uptight parenting put Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark on the top ten list of most frequently challenged books list by the American Library Association for 20 years (1990-2009)!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will creep out audiences August 9th, 2019. Are you as pumped for the film adaptation as we are? Join the discussion over on Nightmare on Film Street’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages!
