Near the end of 2018 right on time for Halloween, Netflix graced us with a surprise hit, The Haunting of Hill House. The show was loosely based off a novel with the same name by Shirley Jackson. While scares were excellently crafted throughout the season, the show had a surprisingly emotional angle, putting strange familial ties and trauma to the forefront. Combined with a stellar cast featuring Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game), Kate Siegel (Hush), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones) and more, it comes as no surprise that Netflix has ordered more of the show.
The Haunting of Hill House will feature a familiar face for those interested. Series creator Mike Flanagan (Hush, Ouija) will return as producer alongside Trevor Macy (Oculus). As for the cast, don’t expect the same crew. No word on the show’s cast of as yet but as far as story goes, we’ve got a lot of juicy details. The series will not be a second season of the Hill House gang. Instead, we’re getting an anthology.
Season 2’s official title has been released, and it’s a good one. The Haunting of Bly Manor draws its inspiration from a different classic – Henry James’ 1898 novel The Turn of the Screw. The story will focus on a governess in charge of two children slowly realizing the manor they are in might be haunted. However amazing the first season was, it held its inspirations very loosely and The Haunting of Bly Manor might go the same route, as the original material is more of a short novella than a novel. Not much else is known about the latest season, only that it needs to be here as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for fans the release date is a mystery. The release is scheduled for a 2020, although the exact date is unknown.
