Clover‘s back in business! Well at least I can report- there’s finally some news. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything regarding the ultra-secretive third installment of the Cloverfield franchise. Until now, we’d been worried the project had been silently discarded and would linger in-production forever.
Well, fret not! While we’re still mostly in the dark, it seems God Particle, the mysterious Cloverfield spin-off, is back on the release schedule! It was after the warmly welcomed release of 10 Cloverfield lane in 2016 that the project was initially announced. Initially due for release February 2018, the film flip-flopped on the release calendar before going completely silent. But, it looks like Paramount has been secretly moving ahead on the project! Despite no trailer or.. well even a concrete synopsis, we have a fresh release date: April 20th, 2018.
Here’s what we know:
God Particle (if that is still the title), is directed by Julius Onah. Chris O’Dowd, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Elizabeth Debicki and Daniel Brühl will star. The rumored synopsis (as of several months ago), is that the film follows a group of space-dwelling astronauts with a particle accelerator who accidentally make the entire Earth vanish. Whoops. How Clover will play into this, we have yet to learn.

If the film follows the zany release of its predecessor, we likely won’t see a trailer until as close as two weeks before the film hits theatres. Holding off your entire marketing campaign before a wide release is kind of a bonkers tactic, but proved successful after positive word-of-mouth sold audiences on 10 Cloverfield Lane.
God Particle will land in theatres April 20th, 2018. We’ll definitely keep our ears to the ground on any news between now and then, but knowing J.J Abrams – the release ride will likely be an interesting one.
While we wait, why don’t we all take a moment to bask in the trailer of 10 Cloverfield Lane, one of the best cut trailers we here at Nightmare on Film Street have seen in at least a decade.
