Some interesting casting news for a M. Night Shyamalan’s new upcoming thriller series for Apple has dropped. Actors Toby Kebbell and Rupert Grint will appear in the show, alongside Lauren Ambrose and Nell Tiger Free. There’s not a lot of information yet about the show, but we do know how these four are intertwined.
Kebbell will play Sean Turner, a professional chef, father and husband to Ambrose’s character Dorothy. Grint is her younger brother, Julian, and Free as the couple’s nanny, Leanne. News of what this thriller series will entail, who else is being cast and what is expected has not been released at this time.
The group has some experience in the genre. A young Kebbell appeared in Wilderness and in the sci-fi film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Grint is of Harry Potter fame as Ronald Weasley. (Though the franchise is geared more towards Tweens and Teens, the later installments did have some delightful horror elements.) Ambrose starred in 2000’s Psycho Beach Party, and HBO’s Six Feet Under. Free doesn’t have many credits to her name, but appeared on the HBO show Game of Thrones, which is a hot ticket to any job in town.
To bring these four together, Shyamalan is directing the first episode and will produce alongside Tony Basgallop. The former considered by many being great at building the suspense of the thriller, and Basgallop has worked on more spy driven works like 24: Live Another Day and Berlin Station. We also know the show will contain 10 half-hour episodes.
This show is executive produced by longtime collaborator Ashwin Rajan. Rajan has produced Shyamalan‘s films like The Visit, Split and Devil. The rest of the executive producers don’t have much in the horror genre, but have worked on thrillers. They are Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black, Steve Tisch and Taylor Latham. This crew worked together in the past and will be interesting to see what they do with this show.
It hasn’t been announced where or when this show will air. It does have me intrigued, what about you? Let us know on Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and in the Horror Fiends of Nightmare on Film Street Facebook group!
