If you’ve ever wanted a movie starring Tommy Wiseau and a killer shark, then your dreams are about to come true. Wiseau is hopping back into the director’s chair for Big Shark, a film where he saves the world from a great white shark. Wiseau is known for directing The Room, the best worst movie of all time, and if you’re familiar with that film, than perhaps you’ll know what to expect from his next cinematic adventure.
The trailer features a lot of unexplained slapping, a drunk Greg Sestero, (who starred in The Room as Mark) and a comically terrible CGI shark. Wiseau and Sestero explained that the film will take place in New Orleans and follow three firefighters who are trying to save the world. Isiah Laborde (Cold Moon, Snakehead Swamp) will star alongside Wiseau and Sestero, completing the trio of drunken firefighters trying to fight a giant shark. What could possibly go wrong?
Big Shark has seemingly come out of nowhere with the trailer first premiering before a recent screening of The Room. Despite what you might assuming watching the clip below, they have not started filming yet. But, according to Wiseau, the film will most likely released this September.
Wiseau is tapping into the B-horror market, especially with that poorly-animated shark. It’s reminiscent of SyFy films like Sharknado and Sharktopus. But a key difference may be a sense of irony. SyFy films lean into that campy horror aesthetic, creating ridiculous films that are so terrible, they’re great. Wiseau, who thought The Room was a serious film, may not intentionally follow that trend. Regardless of his intentions, his cult following will rush to theaters to watch Big Shark. Plus, who doesn’t love a goofy shark movie?
While no official release date has been announced, this looks like the perfect end of summer movie. Let us know what you think about Wiseau’s latest project on Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and in the Horror Fiends of Nightmare on Film Street Facebook group!
