What happens when you throw Girls Trip (2017), The Strangers (2008) and Clue (1985) together and place it at all at an inescapable winter wonderland in Europe? You get Dutch film Vals – or as it is known in America – Vicious. The trailer finally dropped and Belgium has never looked more inviting! Based on the book of the same name by Mel Wallis de Vries, Vicious looks like it will bring betrayal, murder and lies to the backwoods of the Ardennes. All I know is don’t sign me up for BFF Tours!


Official synopsis:

The friends Kim, Abby, Feline and newcomer Pippa decide to spend their last days off for the final exam in a remote cottage in the Ardennes. What would have been a pleasant girls’ weekend soon turns into a drama. After a party with three boys from a neighboring house, Feline suddenly disappeared. Due to a thick layer of snow the girls can not go any way and they do not have a mobile range. It seems that someone is hunting them and the atmosphere is becoming increasingly frightening.The filming of the ‘best youth book’ of 2012 written by Mel Wallis de Vries.



Dennis Bots (Cool Kids Don’t Cry, Secrets of War) directs Vicious. Alexandra Penrhyn Lowe, who previously worked with Bots on Anubis: Het pad der 7 zonden (2008), adapted the book to film. Vicious stars Abby Hoes (Nina Satana), Olivia Lonsdale (Silk Road), Holly Mae Brood (All You Need Is Love), Romy Gevers (Wolf), Gijs Blom (Boys) and Niek Roozen (Brugklas). LevelK acquired the distribution rights.


Vicious was released in the Netherlands on January 24th, 2019. There is no news of when overseas distribution will occur.
