Director Rian Johnson is traveling back from a galaxy far, far away and coming back to Earth with something a little different: a murder mystery film that follows in the footsteps of Agatha Christie. Knives Out, Johnson’s first film after The Last Jedi, is a classic whodunit about a weird, yet very wealthy, family, a strange detective, and, of course, a murder.
The biggest thing that stands out in the trailer is Daniel Craig’s Southern accent. My question is why? He doesn’t need it, he already has a British accent. Small details, I know, but it seems like such a wild choice. Other than that, the cast seems phenomenally on point with their sassy delivery and eccentric personalities. I am especially on board with a chunky-knit-wearing Chris Evans.
Here is the official plot synopsis from Lionsgate:
Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in Knives Out, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer, All The Money In the World) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig, Skyfall) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
Knives Out has a stacked cast, starring Craig, Evans, Plummer, Ana De Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween), Toni Collette (Hereditary), Don Johnson (Brawl in Cell Block 99), Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water), LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry To Bother You), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why), Noah Segan (Starry Eyes), Edi Patterson (Vice Principals), Riki Lindhome (Last House on The Left), and Jaeden Martell (IT). Basically, who isn’t in this film?
Knives Out hits theaters on November 27. Nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like a little patricide! What do you think of Johnson’s next film? Let us know on Twitter, Reddit, and in the Horror Movie Fiend Club on Facebook!
