Just a few days ago, the cast list was announced for Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die. I made it a point to say that the cast is one heck of a group of zombie fodder. Today, Focus Pictures released the film’s trailer to let us know that the “Greatest zombie cast ever disassembled” is an actual reality, and not some dream.
Fair warning before viewing the trailer, though! If you want to go in not knowing who gets undead, then I give you the good ol’ SPOILER WARNING for the trailer gives away a fair amount. But heck, if it doesn’t look like an entertaining piece of oddball cinema. There is definitely a throwback to the vibe of zombie films from the 80’s and early 90’s.
As of now, with no official plot being given, the film seems to tell the story of a small town coming under siege by hordes of the undead. It’s up to the townspeople, led by three deputies (Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloë Sevigny), to come together, and save their little spot on the map before there’s nothing left alive.
There is so much that this film could do right, and I hope it nails every single one of those things. There is, after all, Tilda Swinton portraying a Scottish mortician with makeup skills of the gods and a proposed mastery of sword slicing.
Aside from the aforementioned Murray, Driver, Sevigny, and Swinton, here’s another recap of the star-studded cast: Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Rosal Colon, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits.
