If your frame of reference for queer horror is Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), then Killer Unicorn is here for you with a campy slasher from the heart of Brooklyn’s drag scene. Written by José D. Álvarez, directed by Drew Bolton (in his feature debut), and featuring a host of Brooklyn talent, Killer Unicorn is built to shine a light on queer culture while doling out creative kills.
Here’s the official description:
One year ago the queer Brooklyn nightlife scene was forcefully united by an event that changed all of their lives. Today, they are faced with a man masked as a unicorn who is killing off everyone involved in the incident in gruesome ways, forcing them to realize that their actions may have deadly consequences.
The film follows party boy Danny (Alejandro La Rosa) who is hyped about one of Brooklyn’s biggest parties of the year: the Brooklyn Annual Enema Party, where you get douched and dance. When he’s attacked at the party, he is saved by his friends, but not without deadly consequences. One year later, Danny is still affected by the trauma of that night, but as the next Brooklyn Annual Enema Party date arrives, his friends and a new romantic interest, PuppyPup (José D. Álvarez) convince him to give the scene a second chance. Unfortunately for Danny and his friends, a mysterious man in a unicorn mask(and not much else!) is killing off partygoers.
Killer Unicorn is set for a limited theatrical release in time for Pride Month, starting June 14th. A DVD/VOD release is set for July 9th.
