The official trailer for Children of the Corn: Runaway has dropped, and we have it here for you now. In the trailer, above, death follows a woman and her young son to rural Oklahoma. Runaway is the tenth installment of the long running horror franchise that is based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name, published in the 1978 collection Night Shift.
Runaway was written by horror movie sequel maestro Joel Soisson (Children of the Corn: Genesis, Hollow Man II, Piranha 3DD, and Hellraiser: Hellworld, to name a few) and was directed by John Gulager (the Feast series and Piranha 3DD). The film stars Marci Miller (American Fable and Most Likely to Die).
Children of the Corn: Runaway tells the story of young, pregnant Ruth, who escapes a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town. She spends the next decade living anonymously in an attempt to spare her son the horrors that she experienced as a child. Ruth and her son end up in a small Oklahoma town, but something is following her. Now she must confront this evil or lose her child.
The original Children of the Corn film was released in 1984. The film was directed by Fritz Kiersch and stars Linda Hamilton (Termintor and Dante’s Peak), Peter Horton (2 Days in the Valley and Singles), Courtney Gains (Back to the Future and The Burbs), and John Franklin (The Addams Family and Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return). The film was a success and over the years has spawned eight sequels and a TV remake, with 2011’s Genesis being the most recent sequel.
Children of the Corn: Runaway is scheduled to hit DVD, Bluray, and digital on March 13th. Personally, I love this series and can’t wait. Who else is up for a Children of the Corn marathon leading up to the release? Speak out in the comments below.
