It was announced last spring that a new adaptation of the Doom video game franchise was in the works at Universal Pictures. Last week, it was confirmed that Doom: Annihilation would be the title of the film, and a few photos were posted online. Now, the first teaser for Doom: Annihilation has surfaced as well. Check it out below.
In the teaser, the space marines known as the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) find themselves under attack by vicious monsters. The 30-second clip—which states “It’s not a game anymore”—reflects the official plot shared earlier this month:
“Doom: Annihilation follows a group of space marines as they respond to a distress call from a base on a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth.”
Doom: Annihilation is directed and written by Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T.: Under Siege, Timber Falls). It was once believed that the film would be heading to the big screen, but now it appears that’ll it be taking the direct-to-video route. The movie is led by Amy Manson, who is best known for playing the live-action incarnation of Merida in Once Upon a Time. Dominic Mafham (Humans), Louis Mandylor (The Quest), Hari Dhillon (This is Us), and Nina Bergman (The Car: Road to Revenge) all round out the cast.
The first Doom adaptation was released in 2005 and it was directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak. The film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Karl Urban, and Rosamund Pike. The video game franchise began when id Software released Doom for PCs in 1993. It’s considered a trailblazer in the genre of first-shooter games.
No official release date on Doom: Annihilation just yet, but it sounds like it’s coming out around fall of this year. What did you think of the teaser? Share your opinions with the Nightmare on Film Street community on Twitter, our Official Subreddit, or the Fiend Club Facebook
