No Halloween would be complete without a visit to a haunted house. They’ve popped up everywhere over the past decade or so, with teens and adults entering into the unknown for screams and chills throughout the Halloween Season. And with Haunts becoming more commonplace, the ante is inevitably raised. Extreme haunts started appearing, for only the truly brave and daring. Hands-on scare-actors, complete darkness, full immersion roleplaying, and very realistic levels of danger.

The new horror from Eli Roth and A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods are taking the haunt phenomenon to the next level in Haunt. What if those just-for-fun haunts were truly filled with ghosts, apparitions, and terrifying unknown beasties?

I’d buy a ticket.

( the movie. Not the haunted house. I am the resident wuss of Nightmare on Film Street.)

The synopsis:

On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an “extreme” haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some monsters are real.

Eli Roth serves as Producer for Haunt, with Beck and Woods co-directing and co-writing the fright flick. It’s always nice to see emerging names in horror staying within the genre, and being given room to grow. The pair were the masterminds behind John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, selling the screenplay to Paramount and then staying on to Executive Produce the film. They aren’t new to the director’s chair, however, the pair previously wrote/directed a handful of indie release horrors and shorts.

Haunt stars Katie Stevens (Polaroid) Will Brittain (Everybody Wants Some!!), and Lauryn Alisa McClain (Descendants: Wicked World).

Haunt hits theatres, digital, and VOD on September 13th. Will you be catching it? What are the haunted houses like in your area? I like the kiddie ones on a track where a rubber bat drops down and a neon green skeleton is lit up with a blacklight and doesn’t move. Niceee and safe. Uhh.. either way, come and join the conversation over Twitter, Reddit, and the Horror Fiend Club on Facebook!
