Netflix has announced that it has partnered with British television network E4 for an upcoming series. The partnership aims to bring a comical and chilling story of teenage angst to the popular streaming service. An adaptation of a graphic novel of the same name, E4 has released the first trailer for new series The End of the F***ing World.

The End of the F***ing World will follow teenagers James and Alyssa as they set out to run from their fear of impending adulthood. Both teens live typical experiences that young adults face with growing up. Fed up with the building tensions within their own lives, the two run off on a road trip to find Alyssa’s real father. Their adventure is soon met with horror as James’ budding sociopathy begins to put the two at risk. The teens then find themselves in a situation that threatens both their lives and sends them on a dark path.

Based on the popular graphic novel of the same name, the story of these two teenagers has gained a following. Charles Forsmon initially released The End of the Fucking World in 2013 to critical and public claim. The series of comics were commended for the shifting perspectives of James and Alyssa. The comics were successful for depicting the increasingly dark tendencies of James and the willfully ignorant, blinded love of Alyssa.

This is what attracted Channel 4 (E4) and commissioning editor Roberto Troni to the series.

From the instant we were introduced to the utterly original Charles Forsman graphic novel we knew it was something special. Reimagined by the multi-talented Charlie Covell, Jon Entwistle and the guys at Clerkenwell for this side of the Atlantic, it’s by turns funny, brutally violent, ultimately quite uplifting in a screwed up way. If David Lynch made a rom-com road movie about a pair of teen misfits in British suburbia it might look something like The End of the F**cking World.

The End of the F***ing World will star Alex Lawther (Black Mirror) and Jessica Barden (Penny Dreadful) as troubled youths James and Alyssa. Written for television by Charlie Covell, the series will be directed by Jonathon Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak. Kate Ogborn (The Unloved, Red Riding) has also been noted to produce.

Our horror fiends in the UK can look forward to The End of the F***ing World on October 24th with a Netflix release soon to follow for the rest of us.
