As Mothers’ Day approaches and we’re all reminded of Moms and the joy they bring, a very different Mother looms over us with a watchful, protective eye. Coming to Netflix June 7, I Am Mother follows a young woman (Clara Rugaard) raised by an artificial intelligence known as Mother (Rose Byrne). The world outside is believed to be a barren, lifeless wasteland….until a mysterious woman (Hilary Swank) comes knocking on their front door.
I Am Mother is the feature film debut from director Grant Sputore and writer Michael Lloyd Green. The film stars Rose Byrne (Insidious, X-Men: Apocalypse), Hilary Swank (The Gift, The Reaping), Clara Rugaard, with Luke Hawker (Krampus) and Tahlia Sturzaker rounding out the cast.
A sci-fi thriller about a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind. But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
I Am Mother lands on Netflix June 7. If you’re excited to see this movie as soon as it’s available, remember that there is no shame in waking up two hours early to devour the film for breakfast. And when was the last time you called into work sick? If it’s been more than eight months, you may be overdue for a reckless day-off, where you stay in pajamas all afternoon and order delivery for every meal.
