The world is in a heat wave right now, but the trailer for Hold The Dark will chill you to the bone. Hold the Dark is the new film by Jeremy Saulnier who brought viewers the punk rock hit Green Room and his debut, revenge film Blue Ruin. Hold the Dark is an adaptation of William Giraldi’s novel of the same name originally published in 2014.
Set in Northern Alaska, a young mother’s son has been killed by a pack of wolves. The mother (Riley Keough) calls upon a retired naturalist (Jeffrey Wright) and wolf expert and the two begin a search for the wolves. Over time, the naturalist and the mother begin to form a deep bond but a violent series of events is put into motion when her husband (Alexander Skarsgård) returns from a military tour to find his son dead.
The trailer shows off the bleakness that we know so well from Saulnier. Sure, we’re all excited to see another film from a director that expertly utilizes violence in his storytelling, but it will be interesting to see Saulnier have a bigger canvas to paint with for this next film. Not to mention that thrillers set in the middle of a snowy nowhere are usually pretty intense, and Hold the Dark looks to be joining the ranks.
Hold the Dark stars Jeffrey Wright (Westworld), Riley Keough (It Comes At Night), James Badge Dale (World War Z), Julian Black Antelope (Penny Dreadful) and Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies). The adaptation was written by Saulnier’s long time creative partner Macon Blair. With a deadly cast, a very talented director, and a deep dark plot, Hold The Dark looks to be a thriller everyone should watch out for.
Hold the Dark celebrates its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival before being released to Netflix on September 28th. Are you excited to see Jeremy Saulnier’s newest film? Let us know in the comments below, over on Twitter, or in our Horror Group on Facebook!
