Fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones are in dark place right now. We haven’t seen a new episode since August of 2017 and we won’t have anything to feed our insatiable appetites until sometime in April of 2019. That’s too long. I don’t like it and, honestly, my feelings are hurt. If I may share my truth with you, I wish those episodes were on right now. Controversial, I know, but it’s my truth.
I was able to quell the rising storm of eagerness in my belly for a few moments today as I watched the trailer for the upcoming film The Appearance. It’s a new horror film directed by Kurt Knight and stars Jake Stormoen (Extinct), Kristian Nairn (my sweet baby Hodor in Game of Thrones) and Michael Flynn (Everwood). According to the film’s synopsis:
When a medieval monk unexpectedly dies in a horrific way, the Church sends Mateho the Inquisitor, a rational man of science, to investigate the alleged ‘witch’. When Mateho himself becomes implicated as more monks die mysteriously, he must learn that science cannot explain the horrors around him, before he is seduced by the evil that haunts this monastery.
The Appearance will make its world premier at Cinepocalypse in Chicago on June 27th. It looks to be a very atmospheric, moody horror film interlaced with pieces of Game of Thrones, Black Death (2010), and The Witch (2015). Mix all of those ingredients together and you’ve got yourself a spooky stew brewin’, baby!
