Orion Pictures has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming kid terror flick The Prodigy, and we have it for you now. In the trailer, a new mother and father are faced with the horrifying reality that their own flesh and blood might be harboring a dark, dangerous, and deadly secret.

Miles may be extremely intelligent, but is he a killer? Read on for your first look at the moody trailer in which Miles asks his mom the haunting question: Will you always love me no matter what I do?

Official Synopsis per IMDB:

A mother concerned about her young son’s disturbing behavior thinks something supernatural may be affecting him.

The Prodigy stars Taylor Schilling (TV’s Orange is the New Black), Brittany Allen (Jigsaw), Colm Feore (Greta), Peter Mooney (Summer’s Moon), and Jackson Robert Scott (It). The film is directed by Nicholas McCarthy (The PactAt The Devil’s Door) from a screenplay written by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train, 2019’s Pet Sematary).

The Prodigy is set to be released in theaters on February 8, 2019. Personally, I think the trailer gives the impression that the film is better suited for the Halloween season. Just look at the awesome skeleton makeup on Miles‘ face and the quick glimpse of seasonal decor on the house’s front porch. I hope the studio isn’t making the decision to drop the film in the notorious first of the year “dump months” because it’s lost faith in the material. The film has a lot of talent both in front of and behind the camera. I loved McCarthy’s At the Devil’s Door and The Prodigy has the potential to be the first horror hit of 2019 but only time will tell.
