Netflix has released its trailer for the anticipated Black Summer, an eight-part companion series to the recently-ended Syfy post-apocalyptic zombie dramedy Z Nation.
Black Summer is helmed by Karl Schaefer and John Hyam. Schaefer, of course, was a co-creator for Z Nation with Craig Engler; Hyam also served as a producer on Z Nation. The trailer is brimming with action, tension, and drama. It’s clear that Schaefer made good on his word during San Diego Comic-Con that “Black Summer is before the apocalypse got weird and was just scary”. It takes place in the first summer of the outbreak, where Z Nation picked up four years into the crisis. Black Summer is leaning away from Z Nation‘s humour and toward a more classic zombie narrative. It’s an entirely new story, focused on new characters.
Set in the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, Black Summer stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a harrowing journey to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones. But in order for Rose and her team to brave this hostile new world, they will need to make brutal decisions to contend with zombies – and each other.
The series also features Sal Velez Jr. (The Guest House), Aidan Fink (Supergirl), and Kash Hill (Dark Hearts), although the nature of their roles have yet to be revealed.
Black Summer is coming to Netflix in its entirety April 11th. Get ready to binge. Are you looking forward to checking out this scarier tale told in the Z Nation universe? Let us know on Twitter, in the official NOFS Subreddit, and on Facebook in the Horror Movie Fiend Club!
