2019 is looking to be another great year for big-budget horror movies including the upcoming Pet Sematary and IT Chapter 2, but you’d do well not to sleep on the indie scene. One fascinating flick to keep your eyes locked on is Wretch, which is coming out in just a few weeks on Blu-Ray, VOD, and DVD. We don’t know a ton about the film yet, but it looks like it will be right in your wheelhouse.

Wretch is being released by Thoughtfly Films, and it looks like a psychological horror film with some hints of The Blair Witch Project (1999). Check out the trailer below.

Official Synopsis via Thoughtfly Films:

In an attempt to piece together fractured memories of a drug-fueled night in the woods, three friends confront guilt, jealousy, and a supernatural presence that threatens to expose their true natures.

Wretch is directed by Brian Cunningham, who also directed the films Overtime (2011)Loss Prevention (2018), and the haunted attraction documentary Monsters Wanted (2013). The film stars Riker Hill, Spencer Korcz, and Megan Massie. All three are relative newcomers with few credits to their names, in other words, a perfect horror movie cast!

The trailer doesn’t give us a lot to go on, but it looks like the film will be disorienting, disturbing, and offer differing perspectives about the true nature of events. Also, it looks like Wretch may be a part of the “supernatural creatures that are completely representative of something… but are also a totally real monster that will kill you” style that we’ve seen recently from movies like It Follows (2014) and Hereditary (2018).

The film is available for preorder now on iTunes, and will officially release on DVD, Blu-Ray, and through OnDemand services on January 29. Keep your eyes on our Twitter, the official NOFS subreddit, and our Horror Group on Facebook for more information on Wretch and other indie horror.
