It’s not uncommon for weddings to end up being more about serving the in-laws than for the couple actually getting hitched, and Fox Searchlight’s horror-comedy Ready or Not takes this idea to the extreme. Check out the official trailer below.
Here’s the plot description:
Ready or Not follows a young bride as she joins her new husband’s rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.
Samara Weaving (The Babysitter, Mayhem) is the unlucky bride forced to play along with a deadly game of hide and seek on her new husband (Mark O’Brien, Bad Times at the El Royale, Arrival)’s family’s estate. The family features a slew of familiar faces from Andie MacDowell to Adam Brody — and some most familiar to genre TV fans, such as Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp) and Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black). They are all in on the game, and the stakes are high (an earlier title for the project was Family Ritual and the trailer points to some potentially supernatural underpinnings to the family’s success as board game magnates), but mileage may vary on their weapons skills and how much of a threat they pose to the bride. What will happen to the family if she manages to survive until dawn and the ritual is left unfulfilled…and what will happen if she doesn’t?
Ready or Not comes from the directorial minds of Matt Bettinelli-Opin and Tyler Gillett (Southbound, V/H/S) and was penned by Guy Busick (Stan Against Evil) and Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story).
The game begins in theatres on August 23rd. Are you in?
