Lift your axes in joy, the first trailer for Lizzie has been released. The biographical thriller is a fictionalized account Lizzie Borden and the axe murders of her father and stepmother in 1892.
Craig William Macneill (The Boy) takes on the infamous tale, which follows Borden in the days before the violent axe murders, as well as the actual murders and trial. From the trailer, the film will show Borden’s life under the oppressive thumb of her father as an unmarried 32-year-old woman. However, she strikes up an intimate relationship a new young maid. Then, they hatch a plan to save them both.
But does Lizzie really kill her family? She was tried and acquitted for the murders, but rumors still swirl about her innocence. Lizzie will dive deeper into a story that has fascinated us for over a century. Yes, this is not a new story. But the trailer promises a more emotional and intense look at Borden’s story of trying to find her freedom.
Queen of Cool Chloë Sevigny has been trying to bring Lizzie to life since 2010. It was first set to be a four-hour miniseries for HBO, but it was pulled after the release of Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles starring Christina Ricci. Now, after 7 years of searching and developing, the film is finally coming to life.
Lizzie will star Sevigny (The Snowman) as Lizzie Borden and Kristen Stewart as Bridget Sullivan (Personal Shopper). Jamey Sheridan (Sully) and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) will play Borden’s parents.
The film made its debut at Sundance Film Festival on January 19th, 2018. Lizzie is set to come to U.S. theatres on September 14th. It’s being released by Saban Films and Roadside Attractions.
