It’s been 3 years since the season 2 finale of MTV’s Scream tv series. A third season was announced not long after that. Everything the production needed was set up. There was even talks about the actual Ghostface costume being used for the season. But then … lots of crickets, and no audible knife slashes.

Until today! A pretty darn loud knife slash followed by a scream occurred as THR reported that the long-awaited third season will officially premiere on VH1, and not on MTV, who housed the first two seasons. How long do we have to wait? TWO WEEKS!

Scream: Resurrection (as it is know titled) will premiere Monday, July 8th at 9pm. VH1 is giving us back to back episodes at 9pm and 10pm each night for three nights in a row. The entire six-episode season will be broadcast over the course of those 3 nights. The rumors about the original Ghostface costume from the Scream films being used were correct. An added bonus? Roger Jackson, will also return, providing the phone voice for Ghostface! Resurrection is a total reboot from the previous two seasons. Gone is the Brandon James mask, the city of Lakewood, and its inhabitants who experienced much grief and trauma.

Season three centers on Deion Elliot, a local star football running back, whose tragic past comes back to haunt him and threaten his hard-earned plans for the future … and the lives of his unlikely group of friends. Mary J. Blige (The Umbrella Academy), RJ Cyler (DC’s Swamp Thing), Giullian Yao Gioiello (Ironfist), Roger Jackson (Scream 1-4), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Jessica Sula (Split), Tyga, C.J. Wallace (Notorious), and Giorgia Whigam (The Punisher) round out the cast with Paris Jackson being the possible opening kill. Brett Matthews is Resurrection’s showrunner, and was executive produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty.

Michael Myers got his Resurrection. Now Ghostface is getting his. Literally. This will be the first time someone in a Ghostface costume will wreak mayhem since 2011. I wonder how they’ll work that into the storyline, or if they’ll bypass it? Check out the trailer for the series, below! What say you, fiends? Will you be tuning in to Scream: Resurrection?
