“You never know what you’ll find out in the middle of the ocean.” The critically praised Australian series Safe Harbour will find its way to Hulu later this summer!
Safe Harbour stars Pheobe Tonkin (The Vampire Diaries), Joel Jackson (Deadline Gallipoli), Ewen Leslie (Rake). The 4-part limited series is produced by NBCUniversal International Studios’ Matchbox Pictures. The series was written by Belinda Chayko, Matt Cameron, and Phil Enchelmaier.
In Safe Harbour, five Australians are on a boating holiday from Darwin to Indonesia. But their perfect vacation takes a turn when they discover a fishing boat full of asylum seekers. The group decides to tow the refugees by attaching the fishing boat to their yacht and pulling it along. When the Australians wake up the next morning, the refugee boat has disappeared.
Five years later the group comes upon some of the refugees and discovers the truth – someone on the tourist’s boat cut the rope. By doing so, they sentenced 7 refugees to their death during a storm when the fishing boat sank.
The group of friends grapple with protecting themselves from the backlash and doing the moral thing. Mistrust divides the group as they try to figure out who exactly cut that rope. The refugees struggle with their desire to get justice and revenge, while dealing with the loss of their family.
The trailer quickly shows off the acting chops that everyone brings to the table, along with some gorgeous visuals. Safe Harbour looks to be one hell of a ride that seems very prevalent for our current political situation.
This four-part event drama will debut on August 24th on Hulu. Keep your eyes peeled and your mystery-solving brain warm!
