For horror fans, working in a morgue would be a dream. Looking at cadavers, coworkers who can’t talk back, gross stories to tell at parties, what’s not to love? But, that isn’t the case in the new trailer for The Possession of Hannah Grace. In a film that seems very similar to 2016’s The Autopsy of Jane Doe, just because you receive a cadaver, that doesn’t mean it’s staying dead.
The Possession of Hannah Grace follows Megan Reed (Shay Mitchell of Pretty Little Liars), a cop who has just been released from rehab. She starts her new life on the right foot with the graveyard shift at the local morgue. Great idea, right? As Megan’s new boss says in the trailer, “This job isn’t for everyone.” Megan is about to find out how true that statement is.
At the morgue, she receives and examines bodies, tags them, and puts them in their respective freezer drawers. But this night is a little out of the ordinary. She receives a special case: the body of a young girl named Hannah Grace who died during an exorcism. What comes next is a series of horrors inflicted by whatever evil was left inside of Hannah.
The premise of The Possession of Hannah Grace seems original enough to stick out in an over-saturated sub genre. Often we see what happens during a successful exorcism, but never the results of a failed one. The trailer boasts some creepy visuals, from Hannah Grace’s corpse standing up in an elevator to her corpse spider walking towards Megan. It will be especially interesting to see how the film handles revealing and explaining Hannah Grace‘s exorcism. Will it be through flashbacks? Will it be mere speculation on Megan‘s part? We’ll have to watch to find out.
The Possession of Hannah Grace is coming to U.S. theatres on November 30th. Screen Gems is releasing the film. What do you think of the trailer? Do you think this is a worthy possession film?
