Is it October yet? Since you’re here, it’s safe to say that you’re interested in horror, which probably means that you’re anxious for summer to be over, and for autumn colours to start coming out because that means Halloween is right around the corner. Well, here’s another tease. A Halloween-set, indie horror movie about sideshow performers driven to extremes to get payback on the townies abusing them? Where do we sign?!

Candy Corn comes from Josh Hasty, who is, perhaps best-known, as the director of the behind-the-scenes documentary for the Rob Zombie movie 31 called In Hell Everybody Loves Popcorn: The Marking of 31. With Candy Corn though, Hasty brings together a murderer’s row (pun-intended) of horror actors to realize this story of a fateful Halloween night for the people of Grove Hill, Ohio.

P.J. Soles (Halloween), Tony Todd (Candyman), Courtney Gains (Children Of The Corn), and Pancho Moler (American Horror Story) star in the film with Moler playing Dr. Death, the leader of the “Side Show Spook House Spectacular” and the posse of carny characters who aim to get payback on the local mean kids for violently harassing one of their own.

The official synopsis, courtesy of Dread Central and Epic Pictures:

It’s the eve of Halloween in Grove Hill, Ohio. A traveling carnival is in town for the weekend and local outcast, Jacob Atkins, has been hired as one of the freaks in the event’s main attraction, “Dr. Death’s Side Show Spook House Spectacular.” Meanwhile, a group of local bullies are planning their annual public hazing of Jacob, but this year, things go too far.

A poster for the film was also released, and it really seems to capture a classical 80s VHS cover kind of vibe in the art work. Hungry for candy corn yet? Candy Corn hits select theatres September 13, and will be available on VOD and Blu-ray on September 17.
