It’s almost Summer so you know what that means. Sun, beaches and shark attacks! The dreaded shark movie, or shark horror, has been a staple in cinema since the 70’s and there have been quite a few hit and misses. But in 2017 the film 47 Meters Down came out and brought the genre back to life with a fun and new take on the old and cliche story. Lucky for us the new trailer for the sequel, 47 Meters Down Uncaged (2019) just released and does it make you want to stay out of the water.
Following the huge success of the original 47 Meters Down (2017), which made a gross of $44 million on a $5 million budget, there was no doubt that a sequel would be swimming our way. But, what was really unexpected from this new trailer was how much the story has deterred away from the original source material. As it is shown with the title, there are no shark cages for safety in this one. There is nothing to protect yourself from the new killer sharks. It feels very reminisce of The Descent (2005), but underwater instead of a cave, and sharks instead of goblin creatures.
The official plot summary is:
Four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city quickly learn they’ve entered the territory of the deadliest shark species in the claustrophobic labyrinth of submerged caves.
47 Meters Down Uncaged (2019) is directed by Johannes Roberts who also directed 2017’s 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey At Night. The film stars John Corbett (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Nia Long (Empire), Brec Bassinger (Chicken Girls), Corinne Foxx (Sweet/ Vicious), and Sistine Rose Stallone.
47 Meters Down Uncaged is swimming into theaters August 16th, 2019. Will you be seeing 47 Meters Down Uncaged? What did you think of the trailer? Are you a fan of the first one?
