Upcoming Sci-fi Flick STILLWATER Secures Christian Ditter to Direct

Details are vague surrounding upcoming New Line project, Stillwater. The film is still in development, based on “an internal idea developed in-house at New Line”. Though details remain under wraps for the film, we do know they’ve secured Christian Ditter to direct, via The Wrap.

Ditter, the German-born director, previously directed the romantic comedy How to Be Single starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, also for New Line. He also directed and executive produced episodes of Netflix’s series Girlboss, based on real-life rags-to-riches fashion mogul Sophia Amoruso. He’ll be working alongside Evan Spiliotopoulos, who’ll be penning the screenplay, and who has several Disney credits to his name- including last year’s billion dollar blockbuster Beauty and the Beast. It’ll be interesting to see how dark in tone Stillwaer ends up, because after a quick peruse of Spiliotopoulos’ writing credits, it looks as though his darkest film credited is Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (‘Pooh’ being Winnie, the).

Beau Flynn will produce Stillwater. Scott Sheldon will also produce under the FlynnPictureCo banner, whose next movie will be Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage, which New Line has slated for release on April 20th.

We will also point out that the production crew does have some spookier titles under their belt. Produce Beau Flynn is credited on Requiem for a Dream, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and The Number 23.

New Line Cinemas had made a big horror-tinged footprint in 2017, with the record-smashing release of It in September, and the pleasantly entertaining Annabelle: Creation this past August. New Line hopes to continue the momentum with their upcoming horror endeavour, The Children. The film is being produced by James Wan under his Atomic Monster production banner.

As the film is currently in development, no word yet on a release date.
