With the holiday season underway, Sony Pictures Entertainment has fully embraced the spirit of giving by announcing the release date for its 2018 mega-blockbuster film Venom, starring Tom Hardy (Dunkirk, Mad Max: Fury Road).
Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), the film based on the famed comic book villain turned lethal protector will be available in Digital HD on December 11th and 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray/DVD on December 18th.
Upon its release in October of this year, the PG-13 film initially received mixed reviews. Stated in our own review:
“VENOM succeeds at following the formula, but underneath is a film the desperately wants to break from it.”
Despite the critical response, the film recently hit the $800 million dollar mark at the box office, surpassing DC’s Wonder Woman as the highest grossing origin story of all time.
Though most fans and critics could agree on one aspect that worked above all else: the relationship between Hardy’s Eddie Brock and the titular parasitic alien symbiote, Venom. With many claiming hints of a romance between the two. With that in mind, it seems Sony decided to have a little fun and get in on the growing trend by releasing a new trailer that casts the film in a whole new light.
