The best roller coasters are usually situated in the US, right? Not anymore! Especially if you’re a fan of ZombiesRick Grimes, Michonne, Daryl, Carol and Morgan, etc. Because the world’s first roller coaster dedicated to The Walking Dead has landed in the UK. At Thorpe Park in Surrey, to be precise.

The ‘complete immersive’ ride features state-of-the-art special effects, taking riders through various tunnels, and featuring iconic scenes from The Walking Dead series, including a replica of the iconic Watch Tower As Thorpe Park’s John Burton explains:

“Guests will believe The Walking Dead are all around them – like they are in their own episode of the show. It’s 15 out of ten on the scare scale. I watched every episode of the series from start to finish and back to front twice to ensure we got everything exactly right.

‘’I was a fan of the show anyway, but I spent two months watching it along with official AMC Walker training videos. Thorpe Park Resort has been consistently raising the bar in the scare stakes for years and this will be the ultimate test of riders’ mettle.”

Thorpe Park’s The Year of The Walking Dead has a whole host of events for 2018:

  • The Walking Dead Living Nightmare Extreme: a live-action maze running through the May half-term, 25th May – 3rd June
  • Summer late night opening until 10pm: every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 26th July – 1st September
  • Zombie Hunt: fight for survival in the woodland outskirts of the Thorpe Park resort for the six weeks of summer, 21st July – 3rd September
  • Fright Nights: a Walking Dead-themed season in time for Halloween, running from 5th October – 31st October

Earlier this month, potential ‘zombie’ candidates were put through their paces, with a strict ‘scare factor’ criteria, including frightening guests, regardless of environment, keeping in character at all times, and becoming zombie-like at a moment’s notice.

Here’s the promotional blurb from the website:

‘THORPE PARK Resort is overrun by Walkers and there is but one goal: survive. Making it to the sanctuary of the Safe Zone is vital for salvation. Located at the centre of the Island, navigate your way to the safety of the indoor bunker – but be warned. All signs point to an imminent invasion of Walkers, so keep your head down and move quickly for your best chance of staying alive.

‘We will see you at the Safe Zone…For the first time ever, experience The Walking Dead: The Ride. Those who ride…survive!’

The ride opens on March 23rd. Tickets are available now.
