Sunday’s X-Files panel at Comic Con premiered a two minute promo which features a litany of foes for our heroes to fight. Soldiers run through hallways with guns pointed at something unseen. Mulder (David Duchovny) shouts, furiously, “My son is none of your business!” The son in question, William, is apparently a big part of this season’s arc. He’s missing. His parents are looking for him. Various characters in the trailer comment on him. One even tells Mulder point-blank that, “Your son is very special.”
Of course, hearing the iconic opening theme to the show repeated twice in the trailer is fantastic. Scully (Gillian Anderson) however, appears in bad shape. One scene shows her in a hospital bed, whispering furiously to a concerned Mulder that, “You have to find him and stop him before he releases Hell on Earth.”. Another puts her in the fray, defending herself in a shootout. While die-hard fans of The X-Files will be left with more questions than answers as to this season’s arc, there is still plenty to speculate on leading up to the season 11 premiere.
With quick teasing glimpses, we see The Smoking Man use his patented ominous intimidation tactics against Assistant Director Skinner before he meets with Mulder and Scully in a car park. The Lone Gunmen are show in some vague distress, warning Mulder that “They know that we know...”. And was that a young Smoking Man we saw briefly at the end of the trailer, colluding with the aliens as he puffed away on a cigarette?
Simply put, there is plenty to look forward to in the upcoming season of The X-Files, set to premiere in 2018. If this promo video has left you on the edge of seat, rest assured that all questions will be answered in time because: The Truth is Out There.
