Actress Zoe Colletti has joined the cast of the upcoming Guillermo del Toro produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. In addition to the remake of Annie (2014) and TVs Rubicon (2010), Colletti has most recently starred in Wildlife, the upcoming directorial debut by Paul Dano (Actor, Little Miss Sunshine).
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will revolve around a group of teens who are trying to solve a string of deaths that have occurred in their small town. Per Collider, “Colletti will play Stella Michaels, a young girl still haunted by her mother’s disappearance on Halloween night — an incident that she suspects her father knows more about than he lets on. Years later, Stella and her friends are involved in a Halloween prank gone wrong. But are they really at fault, or was it the work of a vengeful spirit — a female ghost who uses her scary stories to come after the teens when they begin to investigate the disappearance of several children?”
The film is based on a trilogy of young adult horror novels of the same name by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell. The first volume of short stories was originally published in 1984, and the three books have sold more than seven million copies.
“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark contains some of the most alarming tales of horror, dark revenge, and supernatural events of all time. Walking corpses, dancing bones, knife-wielding madmen, and narrow escapes from death—they’re all here in this chilling collection of ghost stories. Make sure you read these books with the light ON!”
The adaptation is being produced by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) and is being directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe). Del Toro, along with Kevin Hageman, Dan Hageman, Patrick Melton, and Marcus Dunstan, also wrote the screenplay. CBS Films is co producing and co-financing with eOne. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is scheduled for release in 2019.
