Can’t get enough of Archie and the gang?

Good news: Riverdale returns in October!

If you’re like me, you watched every episode of the CW murder mystery thinking, “I just wish this show had at least one more teenage witch.” Sure, the show was definitely good enough on its own merits, and Cole Sprouse in particular is great, but each episode left me wanting more. Aside from an Easter egg appearance of a comic book in the last episode, Sabrina was nowhere to be found. All signs pointed to her appearance in season two, but Archie Comics blew the roof off with the news that Sabrina would be hitting the small screen in her own show! Set to debut in the 2018-2019 television season, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be an hour-long horror program that serves as a companion piece to Riverdale.

“What am I supposed to do until then?” you might be asking yourself. Well, you have a couple of good options. First of all, the second season of Riverdale hits the CW network on October 11th of this year. You could spend the better part of a year deciding if you’re a Betty or a Veronica. I’m a Veronica. You could gorge yourself on burgers and milkshakes. Finally, you could get caught up on the comic book that the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on, giving you a head start!

Drawing inspiration from classic genre films such as Rosemary’s Baby, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows an adolescent Sabrina Spellman coming to grips with her dark origins. If your only frame of reference is the Melissa Joan Hart-led sitcom, you’re in for a shock. Set in the 1960’s, this reimagining of the classic coming-of-age story entails Sabrina‘s father betraying a coven of explicitly Satanic witches- not exactly Saturday morning fare. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the comic book pulls no punches and depicts witchcraft, gore, and nudity. The artist, Robert Hack, brings each panel to life with a beautiful watercolor style.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also happens to be writing the new show, and he is the main showrunner of Riverdale. This bodes well for any potential tie-ins, as the creator of all involved stories will have final say on how they play out.

Are you stoked for season two of Riverdale? Are you more stoked for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? Are you a Betty or a Veronica? Let me know! Chilling Adventures of Sabrina hits the CW next year, hopefully!
