Netflix has announced the return of The Punisher through a new trailer. The show had originally planned to release this weekend on the popular streaming service, but was delayed. Marvel and Netflix have now given fans a release date of November 17, 2017.
In an interview with Inverse Entertainment, Marvel TV Boss Jeph Loeb went into detail about the decision to delay the series’ release. In light of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, Loeb explained that it was a necessary but hard decision to delay the release. He did reassure that the delay did not change anything about the series or the way they depict gun violence.
This was a decision that we made specifically because it was a week after a horrible, horrible incident. It hasn’t changed the television series, the show is not predominantly about gun violence, and in fact it shows you the problems that occur in that world. But, to introduce that as close to what had happened. We made a very hard choice with Netflix, and our hearts still go out to the people of Las Vegas and the people around the world who still deal with that senseless violence.
The Punisher will see the return of Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) from his previous appearance in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil. The series is based on the popular comic book series of the same name. Steve Lightfoot is credited as the creator for the Netflix version of the titular character and has confirmed the series’ link to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.
Deborah Ann Woll will also return as Karen Page, another familiar face from Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. The series will also star Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson.
Marvel’s The Punisher, the 13-Episode series from Netflix, will be available to stream from the service November 17, 2017.
