What We Do In The Shadows (2014) has become a cult classic among vampire and horror fans alike. After a UK Spin-off, the vampire horror comedy will be receiving a U.S television series and the trailer has just been released. I am glad to say it looks like it will be just as good as the movie is! The new show premiering on FX has a similar premise to the original film, but will involve a new band of vampires and their hijinks of surviving in today’s modern society.

“What We Do in the Shadows is a half-hour comedy series based on the feature film of the same name by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Set in New York City, the show follows three vampires who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years. Stars Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen and Mark Proksch.”

The What We Do In The Shadows series trailer has a very tongue-in-cheek comedy, just like the original film. It shows the plights of being a vampire including leaving half drunk people around (which is very unhygienic) to again, dealing with those pesky werewolves. They even introduce a new type of vampire: an energy vampire. They will also be maintaining the same mockumentary style of filmmaking which made the original such a hit.

Both original creators and stars, Taiki Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords (2007) are involved which is a huge sigh of relief to die-hards of the original film.

What We Do In The Shadows stars Kayvan Novak (Four Lions), Harvey Guillen (The Internship), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends), and Matt Berry (The IT Crowd). Taiki Waititi will direct, but there is no word on how many episodes he will do. Stefani Robinson, Tom Scharpling, and Jemaine Clement are listed as the series writers.

The series is premiering on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 on FX. There will be 10 episodes on the first season.
