With six films under his belt already, Mickey Keating is quickly becoming one of today’s most prolific genre filmmakers. His previous films include PODCarnage Park, the haunting black & white Darling, and last year’s Psychopaths. His upcoming film Crooks stars Juno Temple (Black Mass), Mark Kassen (Psychopaths), and Lena Headley (Game of Thrones, The Purge).

Crooks is said to be a fresh take on the heist genre. And with Mickey Keating in the director’s chair, “fresh” can only mean violent. Crooks is a collaborative effort between Celluloid Dreams, Monte Russo Productions and Kassen’s Like Minded Entertainment. Hengameh Panahi, president of Celuloid Dreams stated that “Mickey understands that audiences today are smart, selective and know cinema. His distinctive sharp style revitalizes iconic imagery in this tale of murder and madness infused by vintage songs. Crooks will be a fun ride,” as reported by Deadline.

Official Synopsis:

[Crooks] is set in sin city in 1968, where a pair of hustlers, Johnny, played by Kassen and Faye, played by Temple, rob the decaying Moonlight Casino. Faye double crosses Johnny and takes off with the money and is soon pursued by the oldest and deadliest assassin in town. Worse still, Faye meets Blanche, played by Headey, a friendly but crazy waitress, at a truck stop.

Keating’s previous film Psycopaths lived in a Tarantino-esque world that lived in a very 60’s-inspired world. The film followed several killers “celebrating” the execution of an infamous murder with a violent night on the town. Psychopaths starred Ashley Bell (Carnage Park), James Landry Hebert (Stranger Things), Jeff Daniel Phillips (Lords of Salem) and was a production of Glass Eye Pix, the NYC based production company headed by Larry Fessenden. Recent Glass Eye Pix releases include Jenn Wexler‘s The Ranger, and Robert Mockler’s Like Me.

Crooks is expected to begin filming this summer, with no release date currently attached. Are you excited for another Mickey Keating project? Let us know on TwitterInstagramReddit, and in the Horror Fiends of Nightmare on Film Street Facebook group!
