New York Comic Con is about to become very… sexy! FX is bringing What We Do in the Shadows to The Big Apple. Fans of the wickedly funny film will see an exclusive screening of the spin-off series of the same name. Following the episode fans will partake in a panel discussion with executive producers Taika Watiti, Jemaine Clement and Paul Simms.
The FX series is adapting the premise of the beloved 2014 mockumentary about the daily horrors in the lives of vampire roommates. However, the vamps will be rooming in New York City instead of New Zealand. While the characters and location will be different, fans can expect the same outrageous antics as the film, but in half-hour doses. The 10-episode season will star Kayvan Novak (Prevenge), Harvey Guillian (The Magicians), and Matt Berry (Disenchantment). Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) also joined the cast along with Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends).
As we previously reported, Watiti (Thor: Ragnarok) will direct while Clement (Flight of the Conchords) will take on writing. The pair will also executive produce with Simms (Flight of the Conchords) and Scott Rudin (Isle of Dogs).
What We Do in the Shadows is the second spin-off to come from the hit film. The first series, Wellington Paranormal, was created for New Zealand audiences on TVNZ2. Karen O’Leary and Mike Minogue reprise their roles as Officers O’Leary and Minogue. The duo moonlight as paranormal investigators after their encounters with the supernatural in the original film. (Watiti and Clements show their fangs again as Viago and Vladislav in the series as well!)
If you’re lucky enough to have your badges for NYCC then be sure to get yourself to the Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday, October 7th. The panel for What We Do in the Shadows runs from noon to 1pm. Are you planning on attending the panel at NYCC? Let us know at the Facebook Horror Movie Fiend Club! The rest of us will just have to wait for the premiere on FX in 2019.
