Best Buy will carry an exclusive Steelbook edition (Blu-ray/DVD/digital/UltraViolet) of Get Out beginning Tuesday, December 5th.
Notably absent from this new set: a 4K disc. In September, Universal released another home video edition (in standard packaging) that included 4K, Blu-ray, digital HD, and UltraViolet copies. Before that (in May), Universal issued a Blu-ray/DVD/digital/UltraViolet set with standard packaging, the original pressing of which included a slipcover.
Get Out (written and directed by Jordan Peele) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd and had a wide release across the USA and Canada one month after that. The film garnered tremendous critical acclaim; in Rolling Stone, Peter Travers called Get Out “a jolt-a-minute horror show laced with racial tension and stinging satirical wit” while Peter Debruge raved in Variety that the film is “a must-see event” and “a gloriously twisted thriller.” John DeFore (in The Hollywood Reporter) described this horror flick as “a fantastic thriller with a sharp eye for the intersection of genre thrills and social commentary.” On November 29, Empire magazine selected Get Out as the best film of 2017.
On December 3, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association announced Get Out as its selection for Best Screenplay. The film also won Best Screenplay at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, trouncing the other nominated projects: The Big Sick, Brad’s Status, Call Me by Your Name, Columbus, and Lady Bird.
The new steelbook edition contains bonus features identical to those found on prior home video versions: a Peele commentary track, a 23-minute set of excised scenes with optional commentary, an alternate ending, a 9-minute featurette titled Unveiling the Horror of Get Out, and a 5-minute interview (hosted by Chance the Rapper) with Jordan Peele and three cast members.
