Gillian Jacobs is a huge name in comedy. She’s starred as Britta Perry in the cult hit Community. Recently, she headed up the extremely popular Love for Netflix. But now, Jacobs is making her way into the world of horror. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will star in horror-thriller Larry.
THR reports that Larry will be a supernatural family drama, specifically revolving around one adult and one child. It’s in a “similar fashion to the pairing of Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense,” says the site. Azhy Robertson (Juliet, Naked) plays the child opposite Jacobs’s character. Apparently, the story focuses on Robertson’s character and his family as they encounter a dark spirit. This spirit can manifest itself in any type of technology. Examples include smartphones, tablets, anything with a screen. If that doesn’t terrify you, nothing will.
Now, you might not be a fan of Jacobs or the occasional iPhone demon. Still, there’s a name in the credits of this movie that should get you excited. Amblin entertainment will produce this movie. Of course, Amblin produced such horror classics as Guillermo Del Toro’s Mama and 1982’s legendary Poltergeist. As you can tell, they specialize in families encountering the supernatural. It’s still too early to tell, but Larry could very well be the next installment in that line of films.
How do you think Gillian Jacobs will handle a role in horror? What nightmarish situations could a technology-based demon create? We’d love to hear your thoughts on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Also yeah, we totally get that there’s some irony there. We’ll be keeping you posted on any Larry news that comes out in the next couple months.
